Sewing and Boning

It's been awhile, huh?

Well that's because my latest project has proven to be a royal kick in my pants! I decided to sew my own Alice in Wonderland's Queen of Hearts dress this year. Do I sew? Not really, but I do have a sewing machine, determination like you wouldn't believe, and I can read. Do you think I'm crazy for choosing this project as my first sewing project from a pattern? Go big or go home. That's what I say.

I'm sure my mom thinks I'm totally crazy, as I call her almost every night with questions like, "what is a baste stitch?", and, "what does CLEAN FINISH mean?" Not only that, but the ladies at the fabric store see me every day because I'm always getting the wrong things. Grommets? I didn't even know what a grommet was before starting this project. Now I'm thinking grommets are pretty slick, and I'm wondering what else I can use them for...

Boning? I didn't know the hard plastic in a bodice was called boning, but I sure had fun telling Dan about it..."lets get home and bone." Boy was he disappointed.

I'm nearly finished with the bodice, and then it's on to the skirt. I spend about 2 hours on it every night after the boys go to bed.

Wow--that's an ambitious project! Good for you for tackling that one. Can't wait to see how it turns out. Oh, and I giggled at the title of this post. :)
