When I was in grade school, a teacher, Mr. McDurmitt, would take anyone in the 6th grade out for a Shamrock Shake at McDonald's on St. Patrick's day IF THEY WERE IRISH. He came into my class to get me personally when my 6th grade year came (McMullin is my maiden name). I told him I wasn't Irish. It wasn't one of my finest moments. I had been raised to think I was, "SCOTCHIRISHANDWELCH". At that time I didn't know that that I could claim Irish if I was all of those things put together. Perhaps Mr. McDurmitt thought I was just afraid of him. Regardless, I missed my moment and have regretted it ever since.
Fast forward to today, and I'm now a Griffin. Heaven forbid I should ever get my name confused. Dan has as much Irish pride as a person can have. He makes corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick's Day, and we celebrate like the holiday is meant for us personally. Now I'm convinced he wouldn't have even married me if my name weren't McMullin.
I'll start off with a printable of the all time most common Irish expression, and then be posting some of my favorite sayings throughout the month. If you like one of them, feel free to nab it! Eirinn Go Brach means "Ireland Forever". (Click the picture to download)
